Physicochemical and nutritional properties of Syzygium cumini (L.) skeels fruits grown in varied microclimates in Kenya

Wild fruits contribute significantly to food security, thus becoming an important global discussion. This study evaluated the physicochemical and nutritional properties of Syzygium cumini (L.) Skeels from two microclimates in Kenya as essential contributors human diet. Analysis was done using standard methodologies including use inductively coupled plasma - optical emission spectrometer for elemental analysis high-pressure liquid chromatography determination Vitamin C. The T-test showed significant differences fruit breadth, pH, total ash, sodium, calcium, manganese, copper, zinc. Pearson correlation matrix a small positive association between soluble solids titratable acidity with altitude, medium rainfall, strong sunshine skin colour intensity. Larger contained substantial amounts protein crude fiber increase energy values high fat carbohydrates, all correlating positively microclimate conditions; rainfall. exemplifies potential alternative feed supplement strengthen security. It provides information on variation composition climatic conditions, industries employ best strategies obtaining marketable products.
